Kabul : The US-led coalition troops claimed they had killed several Taliban militants and arrested four more during a swoop in southern Afghanistan.
A statement from the coalition forces’ Bagram base here said the operation was conducted in the southern province of Helmand to disrupt a Taliban network.
“Coalition forces performed a search of compounds in the Kajaki district targeting a Taliban leader conducting weapons facilitation activities in the area,” said the statement.
During the course of the operation, several armed insurgents were killed when they attacked coalition forces. “While performing their search, the troops were fired on by several insurgents wielding AK-47s and possessing explosives,” said coalition spokesman Major Chris Belcher.
“The attacking insurgents were killed by coalition forces responding in self-defense,” added the spokesman.
During the operation, the coalition forces also detained four individuals with suspected links to a targeted Taliban leader and Taliban weapons facilitation operations, said the statement.
