Kolkata : Police here Friday identified the three victims of a bomb blast in a house in West Bengal’s Siliguri town Thursday as extremists with connections in Nepal.
Inspector General of Police (North Bengal) R.J.S. Nawla told IANS: “The three have been identified as Dipen, Likta and Akash Rai. They had connections with the Communist Party of Nepal-Youth League.”
Two persons had been arrested during preliminary investigations, he said.
Nawla refused to disclose the names of those arrested but said they were from the Beldangi and Bhopali Camps for Bhutanese refugees in Nepal. He said: “They were planning massive explosions along the Nepal-Bhutan border and in North Bengal’s Siliguri and Dooars areas.”
A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast Thursday killed the three in a house in Champasari area of Siliguri town, about 600 km from here. A pistol, timer and transistor were recovered from the spot.
Police suspect the explosion occurred while the three were making bombs.
Owner of the house Ramapati Sahu, who was arrested, said he had rented out the house to some students from Sikkim two months ago.
