8 terrorists arrested in Pakistan

Islamabad : Pakistani police arrested eight alleged terrorists in eastern Punjab province, who were plotting an attack during the general elections, local TV channel reported on Saturday.

The terrorists, including the eight arrested, planned to kill former religious affairs minister Ejaz-ul-Haq while he was campaigning the Feb. 18 general elections, the private Geo TV quoted police as saying.

But two suicide attackers were killed when their explosives belt went off accidentally before the suicide attack.

The police also seized 45 kilograms of explosives in Bahawalnager district of Punjab province. And the group’s leader Farooq Rajanpuri was among the arrested.
