Jerusalem : Israeli Foreign Minister Tizpi Livni said on Sunday that Israel plans to set and will not cede “red lines” in negotiations with the Palestinians, local daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported.
“Israel will continue the negotiations with the Palestinians, but there are things we cannot compromise on, and things we won’t compromise on. Israel does not plan to compromise on the red lines,” Livni was quoted as saying.
She added that the red lines in terms of the security, the refugees and the holy sites will be presented to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the international community.
It is the first time for the Israeli top diplomat to use the term “red lines” when talking about Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, the report said.
Livni’s remarks came one day before Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is expected to meet with Abbas in Jerusalem on Monday.
Negotiating teams from both sides, respectively headed by Livni and former Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei, will also attend the meeting during which Livni plans to stress Israel’s redlines, Yedioth Ahronoth said.
