World National Oil Companies Congress in London

London : The World National Oil Companies Congress 2008 is being held in London this week, looking at the issues and challenges faced by national oil companies (NOCs).

The three-day conference, which starts on Tuesday, is billed as the world’s most significant forum on NOCs and features some of the biggest names in the industry, as well as including a full day dedicated to gas/LNG issues.

Speakers include Iraqi Oil Minister Hussein al-Sharistani, Algerian Energy and Mines Minister Chakib Khelil, Deputy Iranian Petroleum Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh and chief economist at the International Energy Agency Fatih Birol.

Other executives attending into the director of exploration at the National Iranian Oil Company Mahmoud Mohaddes, chairman of the National Iranian Tanker Company, Mohammed Souri and a host of other leading figures from national industries and the world of commerce.

The organizers said the agenda has been purposefully constructed to deliver new business ideas and capabilities, as well as to highlight some great new opportunities for NOCs and their partners.

Issues being discussed by more than 40 expert speakers include strategies for cooperation between NOCs, international oil companies and oil service companies, raising capital and securing new financing.

The implications of climate change, geopolitical concerns and risk management are also being raised along with meeting future capacity requirements, oil prices and market players.
