New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a public meeting at Parade Grounds opposite to the historic Red Fort here Tuesday to pay its obeisance to the freedom fighters of the First War of Indian Independence in 1857.
Leader of Opposition L.K. Advani, BJP president Rajnath Singh, party’s election coordinator Susmha Swaraj and a host of local Delhi leaders were present at the meeting.
Speaking to a motley crowd, Advani said: “For BJP, all freedom fighters are to be revered. Be it Gandhi, Nehru, or their opponents on the other side, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh or K.B. Hedgewar.”
Advani added: “Whenever we got the opportunity to rule, we have provided efficient and honest governments both at state and at central level, and will continue to do so to produce models of su-raj (good governance).”
The event was organised by the youth wing of the BJP, the Bharatiya Yuva Janata Morcha (BYJM), which had brought 1857 motorcycles together to mark the occasion.
