Dubai : The US based microprocessor giant Intel and United Arab Emirates (UAE) based Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation plan to train two million teachers in the Arab world by 2011, WAM news agency reported Wednesday.
The memorandum of understanding for the training project was signed by Mohammed Al Gergawi, chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, and Craig Barrett, chairman of Intel Tuesday.
The partnership would extend the Intel Teach programme to the Arab countries, and target 150,000 teachers in 2008. It would also develop an Arabic online professional development programme to provide high quality training in remote areas.
The project seeks to improve teaching methods through the effective use of technology.
Intel Chairman Craig Barrett described the collaboration as a prime example of the potential of public-private partnerships in changing the lives of people through the adoption of technology.
The Intel Teach programme has trained more than five million teachers so far in more than 40 countries and plans to train 13 million teachers by 2011.
