Brussels : EU foreign policy chief has said that he will soon be travelling to the Middle East in a fresh effort to push forward the Middle East peace process.
“Sure, I will be in the Middle East before the end of the month,” he told KUNA here Tuesday.
However, sources in Solana’s office told KUNA that no date has been fixed as yet. He last visited the Palestinian territories and Israel in the first week of March.
Earlier, speaking at the European Parliament Foreign Relations Committee, Solana said there was still a chance to move the Middle East peace process to a settlement before the end of 2008.
“I do not want to sound too optimistic. I want to sound realistic and I hope that we have still a chance to move the process forward,” he said.
Meanwhile, Solana declined to comment on reports Tuesday that Iran is installing 6,000 new advanced uranium-enrichment centrifuges at its Natanz nuclear facility. “I have no comment to make. Let me first check on that statement,” he told reporters.
