Patna : Faced with paralysed judicial services following a lawyers’ strike, Bihar may roll back in a day or two the hike in fees charged on petitions by courts, say official sources.
A day after the lawyers vowed to squat in protest in front of the Patna High Court, the state government has been forced to do a re-think.
Official sources said the government was likely to roll back the court fee hike or at least reduce it by promulgating an ordinance.
The government was considering amending the Bihar Court Fees Amendment Act 2007 or to promulgate an ordinance.
None other than Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed unhappiness over the lawyers’ strike and asked officials to talk to them.
About 80,000 lawyers, including those of the Patna High Court and district courts, struck work for the 12th day Wednesday.
Nitish Kumar announced last week that a committee headed by his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi would look into the issues raised by lawyers.
The lawyers’ strike in Patna began March 31. The lawyers of the district courts have been on strike since March 14.
