Dakar : Abdoulatif Gueye, deputy speaker of Senegalese National Assembly (parliament), died in a car cash. Gueye died in a motor accident as he traveled to the eastern city of Tambacounda on Sunday. Gueye’s driver, bodyguard and son, who were in the car, escaped miraculously in the accident. Most Senegalese urged the government to launch investigation into the mysterious death of the deputy speaker, Afro News reported. Thousands of people attended his burial held on Monday.
Abdoulatif led the ‘Rassemblement Démocratique Sénégalais, a member of CAP 21 coalition of parties that supports President Abdoulaye Wade. He was popular for his uncompromising stance on drugs, corruption and immorality. Gueye used his NGO, Jamra, to launch his campaign in Senegal and beyond. Recently he had sent a protest letter to the local Dutch embassy, regarding the anti-Islamic film ‘Fitna’, produced by a right wing Dutch parliamentarian.
