China is leaving no effort to ensure that there is no trouble during the Delhi leg of the Olympic Torch’s Relay on April 17.

The route has been sharply reduced but everything is likely to be finalised only by the April 14.

Chinese security personnel would be present to escort the torch when the flame reaches New Delhi from Islamabad.

The Indian government has already ensured that no hindrance will be tolerated and has requested Tibetans to refrain from any demonstration.

But New Delhi has told China that India is a democracy so it cannot ban protests.

This was in response to a demand by a Chinese security team for a ban on all Tibetan protests on the day of the Olympic torch relay.

There have been protests staged for the Tibetan cause in different parts of the country.

The torch relay was besieged by human rights protesters in London and Paris.

International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge has said the torch relay was facing a crisis and athletes around the world were in disarray, but he was confident that the Olympics would rebound and urged competitors not to lose faith.
