The Times of India plans to launch its Chennai edition April 14.

Deccan Chronicle Holdings Ltd, publisherss of the English daily Deccan Chronicle, will be launching its financial daily in Chennai in April, may be next week itself. The launch date and name of the paper are hotly guarded secrets though speculation is it will be called the Business Chronicle or Financial Chronicle.

The Economic Times, Financial Express and Business Line are three major economic papers printed in the city.

The Deccan Chronicle newspaper itself has etched a fabulous growth story in Chennai, coming here in March 2005 and claiming to be the second largest English language paper in three years, with a circulation claim of a million copies in Tamil Nadu.

“The growth mode of the Indian print media, at a time when the newspaper industry in mature media markets in the West are in decline, makes it favourably positioned to counter the challenge of the internet-led new media”, N. Ram, editor-in-chief, The Hindu, told a gathering on print media technology at Anna University in February.
