Maputo : The National Assembly of Mozambique unanimously approved a law to treat human trafficking as a felony.
Assumane Aly Dauto, head of the Parliament Commission for Legal Affairs, Human Rights and Justice, said the new law complements the old Penal Code, beefs up the law on child kidnapping or exploitation, and protects women and children.
The new legislation relies on a probe by South African and Mozambican agents of charges by victims of alleged sex networks.
It establishes penalties of up to 20 years in prison for any one found guilty of those felonies that also involve organ extraction, sexual slavery and related activities.
