Acting head of the Moldovan civil aviation department’s state administration Yury Zidu told journalists the An-32 military transport aircraft was registered in Sudan. “This machine underwent maintenance in Chisinau,” he said.

Zidu said that the plane with a crew of four Moldovans and four Ukrainians took off from Chisinau airport for Antalya but that air traffic controllers lost the sight of it almost at once. He said the controllers informed the crew, and the crew decided to return.

“But at 22:15 [20:15 GMT] the plane crashed into the ground in Chisinau airport,” the official said.

Seven crewmembers have been identified. An investigation is underway.
