Mittal negotiating a township in Bangladesh

Dhaka : Britain based steel tycoon L.N. Mittal is in talks with the Bangladesh government to develop a $1.5 billion township in the southern port city of Chittagong.

Mittal’s representatives, led by Mittal Steel director Rakesh Dixit, met housing and public works adviser Maj Gen (retired) Golam Quader and commerce adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman, The Daily Star newspaper reported Sunday.

Syed Golam Dostagir Nishat, a director of the Mittal’s partner company Global Oil and Energy Bangladesh, said the project would include residential and industrial blocks as well as an airstrip and a shallow port.

The delegates also met Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) chairman Shah Muhammad Akhteruddin who assured them of his full support to the project.
