Raipur : Employees of state-run telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) Monday preferred to end their row with Chhattisgarh’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and withdrew protest plan of blocking the network from Tuesday.
“We have decided not to go ahead with the protest announcement of blocking the network from Tuesday after Chief Minister Raman Singh’s assurance to BSNL unions that the state government would ensure such incident will not be repeated,” a statement of the BSNL Employees Union said.
The BSNL’s chief general manager here was assaulted and manhandled allegedly by scores of BJP youth wing cadres April 10 at the company’s Raipur office.
The following day, hundreds of BSNL employees staged a demonstration and sought immediate arrest of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers, including its state president Sanjay Srivastava.
The issue snowballed as various BSNL unions joined hands against the BJYM and announced plans to block the telecom network in the state from April 15.
