Moscow : Georgia’s Defense Ministry said Monday it will withdraw peacekeeping troops from Kosovo and send troops to Afghanistan, reports from Tbilisi reaching here said.
Some 150 Georgian peacekeepers will be withdrawn from Kosovo by the end of this week, and the troops to be deployed in Afghanistan are being built up, the Interfax quoted a spokesman for the ministry as saying.
Joining NATO is the priority for Georgia, therefore joining the peacekeeping mission led by NATO in Afghanistan is important, the spokesman said.
NATO dismissed Georgia’s application for membership in its summit recently held in Bucharest, Romania. However, its leaders promised that the former Soviet republic will ultimately join the world’s largest military bloc.
