Saudi Arabia determined to eliminate terror, says king

Riyadh : Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz reaffirmed re-affirmed Saudi Arabia’s resolve to fight terror to the end. He said that Kingdom is determined to eliminate the murderous ideology of terrorism that transforms deceived youth into tools of killing and destruction. In his opening speech at the 41st conference of the Federation of Arab Universities at Naif Arab University for Security Sciences here last night, the king also highlighted that Islam is a religion of moderation, which denounces all forms of terrorism.

King Abdullah emphasized the moderate teachings of Islam and said extremists would fade away like they did in the past and the moderate majority would remain. “The great Saudi people… will stand as a strong barrier in the face of these defeated deviants and Satan’s followers,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted the king as saying. At the outset of the speech, he said: “There is no place amongst us for those who raise weapons against us,” the king said with a quote from the Tradition of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) saying: “Anyone who carries arms against us, does not belong to us”. Denouncing d the deviant ideology, he said: “Crime begins in sick, deviant minds. The crime of terrorism is particularly born in the worst of these minds. When we stand against terrorism, we should stand at the same time against the ideology that turns deceived youths into tools of killing and destruction,” he said.

King Abdullah commended Saudi security forces for their bravery and sacrifices in defeating terrorists. He also thanked Naif University for Security Sciences for awarding him the honorary doctorate for security sciences saying that he would accept it “on behalf of our brave martyrs, and the heroes standing bravely defending the sanctuaries, security, and the safety of this precious land.” In his speech, Interior Minister Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, who is also chairman of the university’s board of directors, commended the king for taking a firm stand against terrorists. “This resolute stand has encouraged our security officers to fight terror,” he said.

Lauding King Abdullah’s efforts in combating terror, Prince Naif said: “Your deep insight and wise leadership have made this country and its men as a steadfast castle in the face of the deviant group so that the world impartially and fairly testifies the strength of Saudi honorable stance in confronting terrorism and protecting the cradle of Islam and its message to the world from tendentious evil doers,” he said adding ” we and the history stand proud of your remarkable positions and glorious patronage for security, its men and efforts, not in this country only, but in the entire Arab, Muslim world and the world altogether.” Prince Naif later awarded the king an honorary doctorate degree in security sciences.

Earlier, upon arrival at the venue, the king was received by Prince Naif, the University’s President Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Saqr Al Ghamdi and senior officials of the university. The King watched a replica of the University and was briefed by Prince Naif and Dr. Al Ghamdi on the University’s history, objectives and various activities.
