Thai foreign minister backs China on Tibet, Olympics

Beijing : Visiting Thailand Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama Tuesday supported China’s stance on Tibet and its hosting of the 2008 Olympics.

Noppadon told Chinese Foreign Minster Yang Jiechi that the Tibet issue was China’s internal affair and his country strongly opposed linking the Tibetan issue with Beijing Olympics.

He also expressed his confidence that the Olympic Games to be held in August would be a success.

Both the ministers also discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues.

Yang said China was willing to join hands with Thailand to push forward bilateral strategic cooperation.

The Thai minister said his country wanted to strengthen cooperation with China and to push ahead the good neighbourly relations between the two countries.

Yang said China and Thailand maintain a close relationship and share mutual benefits in economic exchanges, and cooperate well in international and regional affairs.
