Kuwaiti-Cuban joint committee to hold next meeting in 2009 in Havana

Kuwait : The Kuwaiti-Cuban joint ministerial committee has agreed to hold its second session in Havana in 2009, the Finance Ministry said.

The committee agreed at its first session here to reactivate the economic and technical cooperation agreement signed on March 4, 2006 here, the ministry said in a statement Wednesday.

It said that the committee had recommended the exchange of trade delegations in order to explore investment opportunities in both countries, paving the way to the signing of a cooperation protocol between chambers of commerce in both countries.

The Cuban side invited the Kuwaiti side to participate in the 26th Havana International Fair to be held next November, while the Kuwaiti side presented law no. 8/2001 of regulations of direct foreign investment to the Cuban delegation, it noted.

The Cuban side made a request to the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFEAD) to finance a water project in one of the areas in the country.

The Kuwaiti side introduced medicine and healthcare regulations to the Cuban side, and showed interest of employing Cuban expertise in the fields of physical training and sports, while a cultural exchange protocol was suggested by Cuba.

Visiting Cuban Minister of Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation Marta Lomas Morales earlier Wednesday met here Premier Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah.

The committee had its first session on Monday to discuss economic cooperation between the two countries.
