A roadside bomb went off after midday near a police patrol in the Jesr Diyala suburb in southeastern Baghdad, killing two policemen and wounding 10 others,” the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Iraqi security forces cordoned off the scene while ambulances evacuated the victims to nearby hospitals, the source said.

Earlier in the day, another roadside bomb detonated near a police patrol in Baghdad’s southeastern neighborhood of Wihda, injuring two civilians, he said.

In a separate incident, unknown gunmen opened fire on shops in the al-Rubaie thoroughfare in the Zaiyounah neighborhood in eastern Baghdad, wounding three shop owners and damaging several shops, he added.

The areas where the attacks occurred are predominantly Shiite neighborhoods where Mahdi Army militia loyal to radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr are active.
