New Delhi : India’s Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon will leave for China Sunday to take part in a meeting of Group of Five (G-5) countries and also hold discussions with Beijing on Sino-Indian ties.
The G-5 meeting at Beijing on April 21-22 would primarily focus on the issues of climate change and global warming, an official in the Indian External Affairs Ministry told reporters here Saturday.
The G-5 comprises India, China, Brazil, Mexico and South Africa. They are the fastest developing economies in the world.
Menon was expected to meet the Chinese officials Monday and would discuss a wide array of bilateral, regional and global issues with them, the official said.
Menon’s visit would also firm up the agenda for India’s External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s likely visit to Beijing in June, he added.
China is India’s second largest trading partner with the bilateral trade touching 40 billion usd mark. The two countries want to achieve bilateral trade worth 60 billion usd by 2010.
