Speaking at the workshop on budget implementation that began here Sunday and was presided over by Chief Minister Narendra Modi, he said implementation of the development works should also be strictly evaluated at the department-level itself.

Rajgopalan said value-added tax (VAT) implementation had considerably improved the revenues of the state. The stamp-duty receipts too are bound to increase. During the last five years of budgetary implementation, the development outlays have doubled indicating sound financial condition of the state.

In the current fiscal 801 works have been undertaken and approval has been given to 501 works; remaining 300 works are likely to get the nod by the end of the month, he said.

P.N. Roy Chowdhury, principal secretary (agriculture and cooperation), said the outlay for the farm sector was enhanced to Rs.3.55 billion ($89 million).

Those present at the workshop included Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala, Education Minister Ramanlal Vora, Forest Minister Jaysinh Chauhan and Higher Education Minister Maya Kodnani.
