New Delhi : The widespread discontent against the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission found an echo in the Lok Sabha Monday.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Prabhunath Singh of the Janata Dal-United called for doing away with disparities in the pay packages suggested the by the pay commission.
“There is dissatisfaction among various cadres of government officials. There is resentment simmering in the army and different military wings. There will be a kind of revolt if the disparities are not removed effectively,” Singh, an MP from Bihar, said.
Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, however, in a lighter vein advised Singh not dole out “the ideas of revolt” to the army.
“Please, do not give such ideas to the army,” the speaker said.
Singh said the government should set up a parliamentary committee to look into the recommendations of the pay commission.
“The imbalance in recommendations has generated enough resentment. It is not a good omen. There is resentment even among the Indian Police Service (IPS) officials,” Singh said.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said at a function here Monday that the government would take care of the grievances of all sections of employees with regard to the pay commission recommendations.
The government has already constituted a high-level committee headed by Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrasekhar to review the 6th Pay Commission report, which has recommended an average 40 percent hike in pay packets.
The panel has suggested a pay packet of Rs.90,000 for top bureaucrats and Rs.80,000 for secretaries in its recommendations that will cost the exchequer over Rs.120 billion.
