New Delhi : The Review Committee of the Indian Institutes of Management has asked the central government to issue directives to the IIMs not to implement their new fee structures till the committee finalises its final report on the issue.
Minister of State for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari informed the Rajya Sabha Monday of the committee’s recommendation asking the six IIMs to continue charging the fee according to the old structure.
Most IIMs have recently announced they would hike their fees from the next academic session.
The IIM-Ahmedabad has proposed a fee hike of 175 percent for its post-graduate management course, taking the present fee of Rs.200,000 to Rs.550,000.
The committee members, including its chairman R.C. Bhargava, submitted the panel’s interim report to the government early this month. It has been forwarded to the chairmen of all IIMs.
The panel said the fee could be kept at Rs.300,000 or less till it submits its final report to the government, said the minister.
