No details were available about the contents of the meeting, but a source close to the Syrian side confirmed the meeting to KUNA and said Al-Muallem would be holding a news conference later today.

Kouchner and Al-Muallem have presumably discussed the situations in Lebanon. Both men are in Kuwait to participate in the third Expanded conference of neighboring countries of Iraq.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy halted high-level contacts with Syria last December after he accused Damascus of derailing the election of a president of Lebanon after ex-President Emile Lahoud’s term expired last November.
