The body of Saved was found Tuesday in a field in Amir Nagar village of Muzaffar Nagar, about 100 km from national capital Delhi. The head was tonsured, eyes were gouged out, intestines were removed and there was an iron pin nailed to the head. The family alleges that the condition of the body shows that the child was killed as part of tantric or black magic rituals.

According to the family, the boy had gone missing from his home last week. He had accompanied his mother who worked as a farm labourer. Saved left her mother to play with other children of the locality.

When he did not return home in the evening, the family members searched for him, but failed. The boy’s grandfather then lodged a missing person’s report with the police.

On Tuesday, a farmer Rajesh found the dead body of the child in his field and informed the police.

The villagers, angry over what they said was police laxity, did not allow the body to be removed for several hours.

Senior officials reached the spot and, on the demand of the villagers, called the dog squad but the police failed to trace the criminals.

The superintendent of police, Ashok Kumar, said he would be in position to comment only after the post-mortem report.

Earlier in 2006, a woman, Rajesh, sacrificed her 12-year-old Suresh and killed her mother who tried to rescue the boy.
