Kolkata : Family members of late Congress leader and former union minister A.B.A. Ghani Khan Chowdhury have planned an elaborate lunch menu for Congress president Sonia Gandhi during her visit to their home in West Bengal’s Malda district on Monday.
“Sonia Gandhi will lunch with us that day. After much discussion we have decided to include steamed bhetki fish in banana leaves, prawn malai curry, steamed hilsa in mustard sauce and Swiss salads in the menu. There will be mango sherbet and fruit juices too,” said Malda MP and Ghani Khan’s brother Abu Hasem Khan Chowdhury Saturday.
“The food will be cooked by my sister Ruby Noor and my wife Rupkhan,” the MP added.
The Khan Chowdhury residence has already decked up for the occasion.
“A new air-conditioner has been installed in the room where Sonia Gandhi will rest. We have hung pictures of the Gandhi family with Ghani Khan in the room.”
“Our only regret is that her officials from Delhi said she will spend only 15 minutes with us. I have personally written to her requesting to prolong her stay,” Hasem Khan said.
Sonia Gandhi will visit two districts of West Bengal – Malda and Murshidabad – April 28 to campaign for her party in the coming local body poll in May this year.
During her hurricane tour, Sonia Gandhi will pay homage to Ghani Khan Chowdhury and visit his house in Malda.
The panchayat elections in West Bengal will be held on May 11, 14 and 18. Counting would be taken up on May 21.
