Prague : Three children suffocated to death in a fire broke out during the night in Kosice, East Slovakia, according to local firefighter and rescuer corps on Friday.
The firefighters extinguished the fire on the sixth floor at the housing estate Lunik IX in the early hours. The children slept in a different flat one floor above the fire.
Apart from the three children, the firefighters found a woman and a four-year boy in the flat who survived the fire.
The woman is in a critical condition, unconscious and put on a respirator, Denisa Vancikova, spokeswoman for a local hospital said.
The boy`s state has improved after his transfer to a hospital.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, Mizura said.
The Lunik IX has been known for problems related to high unemployment, poverty and bad living conditions.
