Mumbai : Terming the slapping incident involving their suspended stand-in skipper Harbhajan Singh and Kings XI Punjab paceman Shanthakumaran Sreesanth as unfortunate, Mumbai Indians have said the team is looking for an “amicable” solution to the controversy that has rocked the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL).
“The incident involving Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth was most unfortunate. The IPL Governing Council has set up an adjudication panel to inquire into the incident,” Mumbai Indians said in a statement late Saturday.
“The Mumbai Indians are confident that the decision taken by the panel will be in the best interest of cricket and the IPL. We are hopeful that the Harbhajan Singh issue will be resolved amicably,” the statement added.
Harbhajan has been temporarily suspended by the IPL Governing Council till the hearing Monday.
Mumbai Indians clash with Deccan Chargers Sunday night but Harbhajan will not play because of the suspension. The off-spinner was leading the Mumbai side in the absence of Sachin Tendulkar, who is nursing a groin injury.
Mumbai Indians are meeting in the afternoon to select a new captain for the match against the Chargers. Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya and South Africa’s Shaun Pollock are the contenders for the post.
