Israeli daily the Jerusalem Post quoted Mofaz, who is also transportation minister, as accusing Iran of leading “the axis of evil” and posing “a threat to the entire world,” and claiming the Islamic state “is up to its neck in the Middle East and is even trying to get a foothold in the West Bank.”

He said he believed in the current policy that is trying to take “diplomatic steps and impose sanctions,” while it was correctto make ready all other options.

Iranian nuclear issue is among the key issues Mofaz is expected to discuss with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, along with the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and peace prospects between Israel and Syria.

Iran has vowed not to abandon its rights to nuclear technology, and has insisted its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
