Demand 15 lakh per Refugee family

Jammu : Criticizing Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for allegedly ‘misleading’ Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh over the sufferings of PoK refugees, Shiromani Akali Dal Jammu and Kashmir has said that CM betrayed the poor people who have migrated from other part of Kashmir and were living under miserable conditions in the state.

Addressing a press conference here today, Acting president of SAD, Gurdev Singh rejected the package announced by the Prime Minister during his visit to the state. “We demand fifteen lakh rupees per Refugee family so that they can live a better life”, he added.

He said that despite of his promises made with the community Chief Minister had always promised government will provide a rational package for the refugees of 1947 who have migrated from Pakistan occupied Kashmir who not only left behind their property but also lost loved ones partition.

He accused chief minister of misleading Union government on the issues of refugees.

“Does a refugees 60 year old miseries cost only 50 crore” Singh questioned and said that it was a shame on part of the government”, he added.

He blamed the politicians of Jammu region saying that they are only after their petty political gains. “From the last sixty years these politicians have been playing with the sentiments of the refugees by false assurances”, he added.

“We demand that each refugee family who left PoK in 1947 be given minimum 15 lakh so that they can make live with dignity” Sing said, adding “we appeal central government to frame a committee who will study the refugee’s issue”.
