Five held for robbing, killing two Delhi traders

New Delhi : Five men, among them two employees, have been arrested here for allegedly robbing and gunning down two city-based businessmen and their driver in a car in northwest Delhi, the police said Tuesday.

Ezaz Ahmed, 36, Afzal, 20, Zaheer Ahmed, 31, Manoj, 32, and Netrapal, 30, were arrested Monday on the charge of killing Raghubir Mittal, 60, his nephew Pawan Mittal, 38, and their driver Sandeep near the Kohat Enclave Metro station when the three were returning home from their office in Inderlok area April 21 night.

The Mittals, who ran a footwear export-import firm, were admitted to the Max Hospital, but they succumbed to their bullet injuries. A total of 10 rounds of bullets were fired on them.

Sandeep, who had suffered bullet wounds behind his right ear, was later admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where he died a couple of days later.

The police said during investigations it was found that a bag Pawan Mittal carried with him was missing from the car.

“All the servants and workers of both the deceased were interrogated, and in the process the name of one servant Netrapal cropped up along with some others. Netrapal revealed that he was presently serving at the storehouse of Sanjeev Mittal, son of Raghubir Mittal, at Rithala and had also worked at Inderlok shop for a few days,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest Delhi) Manish Agarwal.

The police found that Netrapal was irregular at work for some time before the day of the the killings.

After sustained interrogation, Netrapal admitted to the conspiracy. “Netrapal said he informed his friend Manoj, who also worked for Sandeep, about Raghubir Mittal carrying huge cash every evenin,” the police officer said.

“Manoj further shared the information with his brother-in-law Ezaz Ahmed and they formed a gang with others,” he said.

The police said they first followed the victims in the Esteem car up to a distance and then waylaid the car near the M.M. Public School and fired indiscriminately on the Mittals.

The police said the accused fled with a bag containing Rs.260,000 and later shared the booty.
