By Prensa Latina,
Washington : The president of the Democratic Party, Howard Dean, called for the withdrawal of either Senator Barack Obama or his rival Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House to preserve the unity of the opposition party.
In an interview given to ABC television, the party president commented that after the end of the primaries one of the two must bow down.
We want the voters to express their opinion by June 3, he commented.
He also called on the super delegates to announce support for one of the contenders before the National Convention of the organization to be held in Denver Colorado in August.
We cannot have a divided convention, otherwise it will be very difficult to save the party, Dean stated, in reference to fissures already present in the party.
The Democratic Party fears the internal division in the coming elections, more so since the Republicans already have their candidate, the Senator for Arizona, John McCain.
In recent declarations Dean considered that it was impossible for the party to continue this campaign of primaries for two or three more months.
He informed that about 65 percent of the 796 super delegates have already made their decision.
Party rules stipulate that super delegates are party leaders and state officials, federal or local, can vote at will without considering popular results.
The specialized web site www.Realclearpolitic points out that the legislator has 1,727 delegates while the former first lady has 1,592 but, 2,025 are needed to assure candidacy.
