Congress disburses relief to Ahmedabad blast victims’ families

Ahmedabad : The Gujarat unit of the Congress party Saturday distributed 15 cheques of Rs.100,000 each to the families of some of the victims of last week’s serial bombings here.

Four cheques were given in Modasa town of Sabarkantha district to the families of doctor Prerak Shah and his wife Kinjal Shah, who were killed in a blast outside the Civil hospital’s trauma centre in Ahmedabad last Saturday, Ketan Bagoda and Virendra Pandya.

The remaining 11 cheques were disbursed in Ahmedabad’s Asarwa area.

Meanwhile, a three-member Congress delegation led by central Textiles Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela that visited Surat Friday has sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the July 26 blasts and the subsequent recovery of over two dozen bombs in Surat.

Vaghela charged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state with failing to take the necessary precautions after the central government issued a high alert following the Bangalore blasts a day before.
