Mumbai/Parbhani : Expelled Shiv Sena MP Tukaram Renge-Patil Saturday allegedly brandished a revolver at party workers when they demanded his resignation from parliament for abstaining in the trust vote in the house July 22.
Renge-Patil and his son, Balasaheb Renge-Patil, faced the ire of the party supporters near their home in Parbhani district of Maharashtra.
According to a police official, the duo were on the way to a temple when a group of party workers accosted them.
They raised slogans against him, called him a “traitor” and demanded his resignation from parliament, police said.
Sensing the angry mood of the opponents, Renge-Patil allegedly whipped out his licensed revolver and threatened the party activists.
A party worker, Bhaskar Dattarao Langote, went and lodged a complaint against the father-son duo. After some time, Renge-Patil also went to the Nanalpeth police station and lodged a counter-compliant.
Police said they have not taken anybody into custody.
Renge-Patil skipped the trust vote in parliament July 22 and was expelled by Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray last week. This is the first time he had gone back to his parliamentary constituency after the trust vote.
Renge-Patil had claimed that he had taken the decision to remain independent not at the behest of any other party but because he was being sidelined in the Shiv Sena.
There was much speculation that Renge-Patil had been won over by the Congress to remain absent during the trust vote.
After his expulsion from the party last week, Renge-Patil had suggested that the Shiv Sena does some soul-searching and find out why 14 MPs have deserted the party in the past few years.
