The general assembly discussed the current national situation and adopted three resolutions. The first resolution demanded that the Central Government institute an independent panel to probe all the bomb blast cases of the last fifteen years. PFI demanded that the panel be made up of jurists, human right activists, journalists, and investigation experts. The panel should investigate all bomb blasts starting with Mumbai blasts of 1993. PFI strongly condemn the targeting of Muslim youth and demanded that Hindutva outfits have been found to be involved in blasts but administration ignore them. An independent panel will help find the real culprits.

PFI which is active in Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu also demanded that defamation laws be amended to stop the witch hunt unleashed by the print and visual media after each bomb blast. The resolution called upon the media to desist from naming culprits before the preliminary investigation is complete. Speculation about the origin of the blasts only creates fear and suspicion and harms the communal harmony of the country. The PFI asked the government to enact laws to strengthen the powers of the Press council of India.

The PFI also asked the Muslims and Muslim organizations to work for political empowerment and involve themselves in the nation’s democratic process. The resolution adopted by the General Assembly asked the Muslims to stop the policy of voting for secular parties in elections without any political gains for the community. Muslims unfortunately are the passive spectators in political games because they have no political platform of their won. A few Muslim political organizations are regional or parochial in nature. Muslims can play positive and constructive role in Indian politics if they come together and discuss ways and means of doing that.

Popular Front of India’s Chairman E. Abubacker presided the session. . A panel consisting of Vice Chairman K. M. Shareef, General Secretary E. M. Abdul Rahiman, Secretary Administration A. Saeed and Secretary OMA Salam led the discussions.

The special session was called to finalise the Independce Day progamme to be held at Mangalore in Karnataka, Madurai in Tamil Nadu, and Mananthawadi and Ernakulum in Kerala.

150 delegates drawn from different parts of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu attended the session.
