Kabul : A mini-bus with an newly married couple and some relatives on board Saturday hit roadside mines in southern Afghan province of Kandahar, killing ten including the newly married, an official said.
Matiullah Khan, the deputy provincial police chief told Xinhua that the tragedy occurred around 2 p.m. (GMT0930) in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar when the mini-bus carrying the bride, the groom and other guests from the wedding party struck the mines planted by Taliban insurgents days ago.
“Explosion left 10 dead and six others wounded,” he said.
However, Taliban militants have yet to confirm.
Afghanistan has witnessed the surge of Taliban attacks on international and Afghan troops during past weeks when the anti-government militants continue to demonstrate their strength through suicide and roadside bombings.
Escalating insurgency and violent incidents have left around 2,500 people dead with over 700 civilians since January this year in the war-torn country.
