The pumps will not function on Sundays. However, to avoid inconvenience to people, one petrol pump will operate in each sub-district on Sundays.

Presently most pumps in the state remain open till 10.00 p.m. while many also remain open all through the night.

“We took this decision to cut expenses. The electricity charge and the use of generators during power cuts have pushed up the cost of operations,” said Sunil Abraham, the state secretary of the federation, here Saturday.

He said shortage of employees to man the pumps and anti-social activities at night were the other reasons that forced the association to take this decision.
