New Delhi : A United Nations agency has listed India as one of the top global auto-makers, ahead of countries such as Italy, China, Brazil and Singapore.
The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation has ranked India among the top 15 producers of automobiles in its International Yearbook of Industrial Statistics 2008.
As per data it compiled in 2006, the world’s top three auto-makers are Japan, US, and Germany. India is ranked 12th on the list, ahead of Brazil, Italy and Indonesia.
Among the developing countries, it is fourth after Mexico, South Korea and Iran.
The automobile sector includes motor vehicle manufacturers, coachwork, trailers, and parts and accessories.
Besides, India features among the top 15 producers of other manufacturing items like chemical products, nuclear fuel, refined petroleum products and textiles.
