Jaipur (Rajasthan): A day after the state BJP government indicated that the investigation into Jaipur bombings could be handed over to a central government agency, the Rajasthan Muslim Forum, an umbrella body of Muslim organizations, announced on August 3 to form an enquiry committee to nab the real culprits.
In the Jaipur serial blasts that occurred on May 13 this year, 58 people were killed and scores others injured. As customary, the intelligence and police blamed some known outfits like HuJI and SIMI. This set the tone and direction of enquiry. Several people from the Muslim community including Imams, Ulema and madrasa teachers were detained and grilled. But more than 80 days after the blasts, investigating agencies could not make any headway. While admitting that the probe into the Jaipur bombings and the blast at Khwaja Moinudddin Chishti’s dargah in Ajmer on October 11 in 2007 has not made any headway, State Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria indicated transferring investigations to a Central agency.
Sensing that some important leads during investigation were left mid-way, the Rajasthan Muslim Forum has announced that it will soon form a team of former judges, human rights activists, journalists and lawyers.
Talking to TwoCircles.net Qari Moinuddin, convenor of the Forum said that as the police and investigating agencies have failed to nab the real culprits, we have decided to form a committee to look into the blasts afresh. The committee is also aimed at finding why these things are happening and who are behind them, Qari Moinuddin said.
Key member of the Forum, Rajasthan Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has supported the idea.
M. Iqbal Siddiqui, media manager of Rajasthan JIH told TwoCircles.net “Rajasthan Muslim Forum has a plan to form an enquiry team in collaboration with social organizations and human rights groups. The team will be called as People’s investigation team.” The team will investigate such cases on its own and also assist government investigating agencies, he said adding.
Despite its failure in finding any evidence against Imams and madrasa in Jaipur bombings, the state police have reportedly again zeroed in on those people in the wake of Bangalore and Ahmedabad serial blasts.
According to Siddiqui, a person has been detained in Banswara district in connection with those bombings. It is yet to be confirmed whether he is Imam or not.
Last week Rajasthan police had tried to pick up Maulana Abdul Matin of Jamia Salafia Banaras a day after the bombings in Ahmedabad but due to public pressure the police had to release him. After several hours’ grilling the police could not find anything against him.
