Several Taliban, four police killed in Afghanistan

Kabul : The US-led coalition troops said they had killed and arrested several Taliban during separate operations in Afghanistan. Separately, Taliban attacked a police convoy in Ghazni province killing four policemen and injuring seven others. Several militants were killed during a coalition forces’ operation in Ghazni province, said a statement from the coalition’s Bagram base on Monday. Coalition forces searched compounds in Waghaz district targeting a militant required to the troops on charges of planning IED (improvised explosive device) attacks.

Four militants were arrested during a joint operation by the Afghan and coalition troops to disrupt an IED network of militants in Khost province, said a separate statement. The joint force searched compounds in Sabari district targeting a Haqqani network sub-commander known to conduct IED-facilitation operations.

Taliban, meanwhile, ambushed a police convoy in Zan Khan district of Ghazni province, killing three cops and injuring seven others. Intelligence department chief in Ghazni Mohamad Zaman said the attack on police convoy was carried out on Sunday evening. Taliban spokesman, Zabeehullah Mujahid, on the other hand, claimed they had killed a dozen police personnel in the attack.
