Tehran : Iranian Ambassador to Brussels Ali-Asghar Khaji on Tuesday handed in Tehran’s written response to the 5+1 package of incentives to EU officials, the semi-official Fars News Agency reported.
The report did not give further details about Iran’s reply, which has not yet been verified by Iranian official sources.
The EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana handed over to Iran in mid-June a package of incentives proposed by six major powers requiring the country to suspend its nuclear enrichment program in exchange for political and economic benefits.
Solana and Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili held talks in Geneva on July 19 over Tehran’s disputed nuclear program.
In the meeting, Iran gave no clear answer to the package of incentives, though Western diplomats said the country was asked to make a response within two weeks.
Iran did not give any answer by the Saturday deadline concerning the package.
Jalili and Solana on Monday called for “positive air” over Tehran’s nuclear issue in a telephone conversation. Jalili said that his country would deliver a written response to the package on Tuesday.
