13 people killed in road accident in east India

New Delhi : Thirteen pilgrims including an eight-year-old boy were killed and 12 others were injured in a road accident in India eastern state West Bengal on Wednesday, according to local police.

The accident happened when a truck they were traveling hit a bus on the highway in Hooghly district, West Bengal, the Press Trust of India reported.

Eleven people died on the spot, two persons succumbed to their injuries at a hospital, the police said.

The victims were devotees on their way to visit an important Shiva temples in Tarakeswar, 58 km away from state capital Kolkata.

Traffic on the busy highway remained suspended for hours after the accident, according to the report.
