Hanoi : Strong tropical storm Kammuri was forecast to hit the Chinese mainland later on Wednesday after being located at 321 km from the southern Guangdong Province earlier in the day, the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecast said.
The storm was predicted to hit the coast between Shenzhen and Dianbai cities, in the afternoon or evening, bringing heavy rains, the Vietnam news agency (VNA) reports Wednesday.
The eye of the storm, at 20.8 degrees north and 114 degrees east, was packing up winds up to force 10 at a speed of 90 kilometers per hour on Wednesday morning, the Fujian observatory said.
China’s coastal areas are still recovering from tropical storm Kalmaegi in early July and typhoon Fung-Wong, which struck last week.
Meanwhile, in VIETNAM, the storm is likely to cause heavy rains in the country’s northern mountainous provinces.
Local authorities and residents warned to be vigilant against flash floods and landslides, the centre said.
The Border Guard Command said that as of Monday afternoon they had informed 4,021 ships and 28,685 seamen out on sea about the storm.
