Islamabad : Suspected Taliban militants killed at least nine policemen in an overnight attack on a check post in Pakistan’s northwest, the News Network International (NNI) news agency reported Saturday.
Police at a check post stopped a pick-up van for routine search in Buner area of North West Frontier Province Friday night, but when they tried to search the vehicle, armed Taliban opened fire on security personnel, the report said.
Nine policemen died at the scene and several others fled, it added.
Taliban had occupied the check post for some time. Later, locals joined the police to force the militants to vacate the post, the report said.
