“The U.S. administration’s role is to make unrest on the Palestinian scene and to support a side against the other side,” said Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri.

Hamas’ statement came after Gen. Keith Dayton, the U.S. security envoy to the region, revealed that Israel accepted to allow 200 bullet-proof vests and 142 vehicles for security forces controlled by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

“Dayton’s remarks prove the role of the Palestinian (National) Authority’s security forces in West Bank — cracking down against the Palestinian resistance to serve the Zionist occupation and the U.S. administration,” Abu Zuhri added.

“The weapons of these security forces are illegitimate, the only legitimate weapon is the arms of the Palestinian resistance,” Abu Zuhri continued.

The West Bank is controlled by Hamas’ bitter rival Fatah, whose security forces were driven out by Hamas after deadly fighting in Gaza Strip in June 2007. The two sides are tightening their grips in the territory each one controls.
