Amman : Jordanian human rights activists have announced here the first Arab anti-torture guidelines in a bid to enhance the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Torture.
The guidelines, worked out by Adaleh Center for Human Rights, define several principles of protection of human rights in line with the UN treaty.
The document was announced in a meeting hosted by Adaleh Center and attended by several local human rights activists.
The meeting announced also the launching of the Jordanian alliance against torture which includes a number of civil society organizations active in this domain in the Hashemite Kingdom.
The alliance encourages teamwork against torture and consists of a number of physicians, psychologists, lawyers and other public figures.
The conferees agreed to employ modern tools to reveal crimes of torture and do justice in line with relevant international standards.
The United Nations Convention against Torture was adopted in 1984.
