Zebari told the press Sunday that negotiations on the matter had been long and continuous with both parties trying to sign an agreement in favour of both states’ interests.

Talks on the long-term deal have reached its final stages, affirmed Zebrai.

Sources close to the Iraqi negotiators said that both countries are planning a scheduled plan to pull out US forces by 2010-11.

Iraqis also asked the US to inform the government of any arrests to be conducted by the Multi-National Force (MNF), the sources affirmed, adding that deals on continuing the training of the Iraqi forces and the status of US military presence in Iraq were also on the agenda.

The agreement should have been signed back in May but some important matters such as the nature of US presence in Iraq prevented the signing.
