Jakarta : Two moderate earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.5 and 5.2 respectively rocked easternmost and eastern parts of Indonesia on Tuesday morning, no report of damageor casualty, local meteorological agency said.
The 5.5 magnitude quake struck at 02:07 Jakarta time (1907GMT Monday) with epicenter at 136 kilometers northwest Manokwari of West Irian province in easternmost of Indonesia and at 30 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said.
About three hours later, another quake with a magnitude of 5.2 jolted Maluku province in eastern parts of the country with epicenter at 145 kilometers northwest Saumlaki town of the province and at 163 kilometers in depth, the official said.
Indonesia is laid on a vulnerable zone so called “the Pacific Ring of Fire” where two continental plates meet causing frequent volcanic movements.
